A Successful 10th Annual Keepin’ It Renal Global Run/Walk

The Chris “CJ” Johnson Foundation’s 10th annual Keepin’ It Renal Global 5K Run/Walk was a huge success. Our in person event was held on March 25, 2023 at Sugar Land Memorial Park , in Sugar Land, Texas. We had virtual teams walking in Elks Grove, California, Greece, Colombia, Canada, Antioch, Tennessee, Pasadena, California, Oakland, California, British Virgin Island, Houston, Texas, Missouri City, Texas, Newark, New Jersey, St. Louis, Missouri, Albuquerque, New Mexico, New York, Tucson, Arizona, Madison, Wisconsin and Atlanta, Georgia. The Rickey Casey Trust Foundation from the UK also participated. Approximately 200 participants hit the trail in Sugar Land to heighten awareness for renal medullary carcinoma, and raise funds to advance RMC research at UT MD Anderson Cancer Center. Approximately 300 participants joined us from various parts of the world. We thank everyone who traveled from different states to join us in Sugar Land. We thank our vendors, UT MD Anderson, INOV8 Orthopedics, As One Foundation, Dentist of Fort Bend and Dentist of Richmond for setting up tables. We extend a hearth-felt thank you to all of our volunteers for getting up early to assist us in setting up. Thank you Dr. Msaouel and Dr. Tannir for providing the audience an update on where we are with RMC research and ultimately a cure. A group of participants and our RMC families joined us at Floyd’s Seafood Restaurant for lunch. The weather was beautiful and having the ability to have our RMC patients and families spend time was spectacular. This year, we donated $5,000 to UT MD Anderson to advance RMC research. We met our fundraising goal $25,000. As special thank you to our 1st and 2nd place fundraisers, Curtis Threat (Sugar Land) and Dorothy Osuorji (Elks Grove, California).
