Brandon Hunter: A Testimony of Faith, Strength, and Healing

  • November 02, 2025

Brandon Hunter has traveled across the world serving his country in the U.S. Army, but it was during his time stationed at Fort Bliss in El Paso that his life took an unexpected turn. At just 35 years old, Brandon noticed blood in his urine—an alarming sign that led to a devastating diagnosis: Renal Medullary Carcinoma (RMC), a rare and aggressive form of kidney cancer primarily affecting individuals with sickle cell trait.

Until his daughter’s birth in 2021, Brandon had no idea that he carried sickle cell trait. That knowledge would later help explain what caused this rare cancer, but nothing could prepare him and his family for the journey ahead.

Determined to fight, Brandon began a rigorous series of treatments. The road was far from easy—some therapies brought difficult side effects, testing both his body and his spirit. But through every challenge, Brandon remained steadfast in his faith, believing that God had the final say over his life.

In April 2025, Brandon, his wife, and their young daughter relocated to the Houston area so that he could continue his care under the direction of Dr. Pavlos Msaouel at MD Anderson Cancer Center—a physician deeply committed to advancing research and treatment for RMC. Ritchie Johnson founder and President of the Chris “CJ” Johnson Foundation has walked alongside Brandon and his family, offering support and encouragement throughout this journey since last year.

Then, on October 31, 2025, what was expected to be another routine chemotherapy appointment turned into a day of divine celebration. Instead of receiving treatment, Brandon sat across from Dr. Msaouel and heard the words he had prayed so long to hear:
“You don’t need any more treatment—there is no evidence of disease.”

Brandon’s heart overflowed with gratitude. Not long after, he had the opportunity to stand before the congregation at The Champion Center in Rosenberg, where Pastor Ladell Graham delivered a powerful sermon on the goodness of God and the miracles that come to those who believe. Brandon shared his story—his testimony of endurance, faith, and healing—reminding everyone that miracles still happen.

Today, Brandon Hunter, age 36 stands cancer-free, a living testament to faith, perseverance, and the power of unwavering hope. His journey shines as a beacon for the entire RMC community, proving that even in the face of the rarest battles, victory is possible.

His testimony is so powerful.
