Dr. Kelly Moore was a beloved mother of three sons, a devoted Soror of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, President of her local Jack and Jill Chapter, a gifted clinical psychologist, professor, author, and community leader whose warmth, brilliance, and commitment to serving others touched countless lives. At only 46 years old—with her eldest son having just begun his freshman year at Howard University—Kelly’s passing leaves an immeasurable void, but her extraordinary life and legacy give us a powerful reason to help protect and uplift others.

Kelly’s battle with renal medullary carcinoma (RMC) also brings urgent attention to a little-known danger within our broader community: RMC is a rare, aggressive kidney cancer strongly associated with sickle cell trait and sickle cell disease, yet many people—particularly Black Americans—carry the trait without knowing their status or understanding this potential risk. In Kelly’s honor, Mu Upsilon is raising $5,000 to support the Chris “CJ” Johnson Foundation’s work educating communities about sickle cell trait and RMC while helping patients and families access specialized care, transportation, and financial assistance during treatment; together, we can transform our grief into awareness, action, and hope by paying it forward for others facing this devastating disease.
