- March 01, 2025
The Chris “CJ” Johnson Foundation, Inc. deeply mourns the passing of Elvie Chineme Achukwu we on January 8, 2025. just 13 years old, Elvie was a vibrant young soul tragically taken far too soon by renal medullary carcinoma (RMC), a devastating and rare form of kidney cancer.
Elvie was the cherished daughter of Misty Sheldon and Onu Achukwe, both of whom served as steadfast advocates throughout her battle with RMC. Our President, Ritchie Johnson, had the privilege of meeting Elvie and her mother last summer in Atlanta. Their meeting fostered an immediate connection, solidifying a bond that extended well beyond their time together. This bond continued through the RMC Support Group, where Onu also became an active participant, demonstrating unwavering commitment to Elvie’s care and wellbeing.
Elvie’s fight against RMC was marked by extraordinary courage and resilience. Despite enduring multiple surgeries and the immense challenges of her treatment, she remained a warrior in every sense, embodying strength and determination in her fight for life. Her parents, knowledgeable and dedicated, stood by her side, navigating the complexities of her medical care with admirable resolve.
The RMC community is deeply saddened by this loss and extends its heartfelt condolences to Elvie’s family. We share in your grief and honor Elvie’s memory as a source of inspiration to continue our mission of advocacy, awareness, and support for all affected by RMC. May her legacy guide us in our efforts to bring hope and healing to others.
