Jerrod and his sister lived in several foster homes before meeting their forever family and being adopted in 2006. In late February 2016, Jerrod was diagnosed with a cancer that proved difficult to identify after a biopsy on a swollen lymph node. Despite undergoing chemotherapy, the cancer continued to spread. Following a second biopsy, Jerrod was diagnosed with renal medullary carcinoma on June 6. Two days later Jerrod entered the hospital for his final battle. After expressing the wish to go home, Jerrod returned to his parents’ farm and spent his final hours surrounded by family and friends. He died on June 16, 2016 at the age of 25 less than four months after the initial diagnosis.

Jerrod enjoyed a variety of activities as a teenager taking part in athletics, choir, and a vocal ensemble in high school. After graduation, Jerrod spread his wings and lived many adventures -traveling to different states and trying new things. He experienced life in Minnesota, Georgia, and returned to Kansas to live in Manhattan, Wichita, and then attend Butler Community College for a year. In 2014 his journeys took him to Denver, Co. There he met Jen Miller who he married on May 28, 2015. He loved to talk about “my wife” and truly loved her with all his heart. In October, 2015 Jerrod and Jen moved back to his hometown of Hillsboro, KS.

Jerrod’s passions in life included music and weight lifting. He enjoyed many kinds of music and would sing Jen their special song when he would take her to work. He dreamed of having a career in music someday. He also enjoyed playing video games and always found fishing a relaxing sport.

Jerrod is survived and remembered by his wife, parents, brothers, sisters, nephew and many extended family members and friends.
